AmruthKesari Depot was started in the year 1890 at the then Dhoddapete [Avenue Road of today]. It was started as a “GrandhigeAngadi” by the founder Neelkantappa. GrandhigeAngadi’s are stores which sell materials that are required for Pooja, Worships, Homa and Havan’s. The Indian worship style is unique in that it makes use of numerous “Gifts of Nature [God]” to appease the Almighty. The Indian worship style practised since the time of sages to the current “techie” uses herbs, shrubs, forest produce and in few cases chemicals, minerals and ores as well. Such materials were carefully selected by the sages and one of the reasons being their medicinal quality and their ability to cure a number of diseases. Grandhige Angadi’s specialize in supplying such materials which are not usually available in the regular provisional/departmental stores, malls or super markets.

Ayurveda and Unani are ancient sciences which are now garnering interest and also acceptance amongst everyone. What used to be a traditional and/or home-made medicinal practices and remedies, has now caught the eye of the world and is now an accepted and also a standard way of curing diseases. The Government is investing in research and is also awarding various certifications to people who have achieved in field of Ayurveda and also Unani.

This evolution has affected AmruthKesari Depot in a positive way in that the traditional herbs which were being sold for prayers and worships were also required by Ayurvedic and Unani practitioners to prepare medicines. The history of AmruthKesari Depot from the people perspective is given below:

Neelkantappa: The founder of AmruthKesari Depot led the “Angadi” from its inception in the year of 1890 to the year of 1942. He was a visionary who started the company at Dhoddapete which is now commonly known as Avenue Road

Parmeshiah Sulkunte: Parmeshiah worked alongside his father from 1935 for a period of seven years before completely taking over the company from Neelkantappa in the year of 1942. He led the company till the year of 1986 before passing on the reins to his son Ravishankar

Ravishankar Sulkunte: Ravishankar started working at Amruth Kesari Depot from the year of 1982. He became the sole proprietor of the company in the year of 1986 and continues to lead the company to this day. His experience in the field of Ayurveda and Unani is extensive and has in-depth knowledge of the raw materials used in Ayurvedic Medicine, Pooja Materials and also about Spices and Dried Fruits. During his leadership the company gained popularity among local Ayurvedic Doctors, traditional practitioners and also retail traders in the same field. He laid importance to “Customer is King” concept, by taking pains to address to the customer’s needs to the extent possible
